Prime Recognition Announces PrimeOCR Version 3.05

Aug 17, 1998 - San Carlos, CA - Prime Recognition announced today the availability of PrimeOCR version 3.05. This latest release of Prime Recognition’s “Voting” OCR technology provides better OCR accuracy of low resolution faxes and high resolution (600 dpi) images while improving overall speed.  Additionally, the OCR Job Server provides additional job status statistics that improve production imaging efficiency.

New PrimeOCR version 3.05 features:

  • Improved OCR accuracy on low resolution fax - Changes to PrimeOCR improve OCR accuracy and reduce errors on low resolution faxes.

  • OCR Engine update speeds up PrimeOCR - One of the OCR engines within PrimeOCR was updated to the latest release which improves processing speed by 20%.

  • OCR Engine supports 600 dpi - In support of higher resolution images, all five OCR engines, within PrimeOCR, can now OCR 600 dpi images.  Although 600 dpi resolution files can be much larger than other resolution files, users can get the high accuracy results provided by PrimeOCR's "Voting" technology

  • Restart or Reboot on user defined errors - Users can now configure the OCR Job Server to either reboot the PC or restart the OCR Job Server application, on user defined errors.  Depending on the application or images, users may want the PC be restarted or for the OCR Job Server to be restarted for OCR processing to continue.  PrimeOCR includes features that allow for processing to continue in spite of errors that may cause conventional OCR engines to GPF and cause timely imaging production delays.

  • Enhanced Job Status - The OCR Job Server now includes statistics and logs tracking job completion and status.  Users can now get summary information from the OCR Job Server application window or access the OCR Job Server job status file over a network to understand what jobs have been completed, any anomalies with the job, and time of completion.  Users can use the OCR Job Server job status records to efficiently manage, route, and process production imaging projects.

Higher OCR Accuracy through “Voting” Technology

Developed for the production OCR marketplace, PrimeOCR is an “omnifont” Windows™ NT/2000/XP based software OCR engine and Application Programming Interface (API) toolkit. Using a combination of proprietary “Voting” algorithms and technology licensed from the best retail OCR vendors, PrimeOCR is able to reduce OCR errors by an average of 65-80% over the best conventional OCR products. This reduces the cost of labor and workstations associated with manual error correction by 65-80%. Since manual error correction can account for over 50% of the annual imaging system cost in OCR-intensive applications, installations that use PrimeOCR can achieve annual cost savings of 35%.
